INNOVATIVE BUSINESS STRATEGY FUELS ENTHALPY’S GROWTH - With the purchase of additional API-5000 instruments, Enthalpy expands bioanalytical capacity.

In order to stay true to its unique business strategy—to keep standard workload at 70 percent of capacity—Enthalpy Analytical, Inc., a mid-sized bioanalytical company, has invested millions of dollars in additional laboratory space, equipment and scientific staff.

In this day and age of maximizing profits and reducing costs, one rarely hears about a company with a goal of staying below capacity. That, however, is exactly how Enthalpy Analytical succeeds.

The impetus behind this unique approach is to ensure that resources are always available to meet client deadlines and to fast-track critical studies.

“The new equipment includes three new Applied Biosystems API 5000™ LC/MS/MS systems that increase our capacity by an additional 120,000 samples each year,” says Todd Grosshandler, co-founder and vice president. “We’ve made a strategic decision to keep our workload below capacity which gives us the resources to easily help our clients with challenging deadlines and quick-turn projects.”

That focus has paid off. With excess capacity by design, Enthalpy has grown rapidly as it has become known for its ability to offer responsive service without compromising reliable, accurate results.

In the bioanalytical industry, where contract labs analyze drugs in biological fluids and tissues to support new drug research and clinical trials, this commitment makes a notable difference to Enthalpy’s customers. With increased competition to bring drugs to market faster, delays in bioanalytical services can set the drug development process back substantially.

"We were backed up significantly at another analytical facility,” said Steven A. Johnson, Vice President of Preclinical Development at Cortex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. “As a result, studies were not getting completed and timelines were being missed. I contacted Enthalpy and they were able to take over a large number of studies and complete them to our satisfaction very quickly. That meant everything to our timelines and we continue to be a satisfied repeat customer."

In addition to the new instruments, Enthalpy has expanded into 20,000 square feet of laboratory space, added additional scientific staff and acquired a Hamilton MicroLab Star™ liquid handler to increase sample preparation capability. The lab now has eight LC/MS/MS systems, which support a growing list of large and small drug development companies that expect projects to be delivered on-time and appreciate Enthalpy’s client-focused, single point-of-contact approach to the CRO business.
